Partner: PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk
Industry: Energy & Natural Gas
Objective:
To support the fulfillment of the basic food needs of the people of Yogyakarta amid pressures regarding the affordability of staple goods. This program aims to improve low-income residents’ access to quality basic food items at affordable prices, while also encouraging community participation in healthy living activities through a series of group exercise sessions. Thus, the program is expected to strengthen household food security while fostering a sense of community among residents in the target area.
Challenges:
- Fluctuations in the prices of basic necessities that strain residents’ purchasing power, particularly among those with lower incomes.
- Access to quality food at affordable prices remains limited for some segments of the population.
- An orderly and targeted distribution mechanism is needed to ensure that assistance truly reaches those in need.
- There is a need for an approach that not only distributes food aid but also encourages active community participation, such as through exercise activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Solutions:
To address these challenges, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara, in collaboration with Filantra, implemented the Food Package Assistance Program as part of the Affordable Market initiative in Yogyakarta on August 22, 2026, held at Kedai Bahagia Yogya, Tiyosan, Condongcatur, Kapanewon Depok, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, which included:
- Outreach and Coupon Distribution
Food package coupons were distributed to the community one day before the group exercise event.
- Group Exercise Event (Suadesa 2026)
Residents who received coupons were required to participate in the group exercise session as a condition for receiving a food package, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle among the local community.
- Redemption of Subsidized Food Packages
Coupons could be redeemed for one food package valued at Rp50,000.00, which was significantly below the market price for the package’s total contents.
- Distribution of Food Packages
A total of 200 food packages were distributed, each containing 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of granulated sugar, 1 liter of cooking oil, a can of sweetened condensed milk, 150 grams of coffee, and 25 tea bags.
Impact:
- A total of 200 food packages were successfully distributed to the people of Yogyakarta on August 22, 2026.
- Residents received six types of staple foods in a single package for just Rp50,000.00 per package, and far below the total market value of the package’s contents.
- The group exercise session held alongside the coupon exchange successfully encouraged active participation from residents of various hamlets around the event location.
- 71.5% of the program funds were allocated directly to the procurement of food packages to support the community’s access to basic food needs. Meanwhile, the remaining funds were used to support program operations and management to ensure the effective distribution of aid.
SDG Relevance:
SDG 2: Zero Hunger
This activity represents a concrete step toward supporting SDG 2, which aims to ensure that people, especially the poor and vulnerable to have access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food throughout the year. This program contributes to meeting food needs and strengthening the food security of target households.
