Partner: PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Bukit Asam

Industry: Energy (Electric Power)

Objective

The Psychosocial Support Program for Children Affected by the Nagekeo Earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, organized under the “Space for Recovery” initiative, aims to help children affected by the earthquake in Nagekeo Regency return to playing, expressing themselves, and learning, as well as to experience happiness and a sense of security after enduring a difficult period. The program is implemented at Ameaba Public Elementary School through child-friendly play and creative activities, as an effort to rekindle joy, creativity, and hope for the future.

Challenges

  • Earthquakes cause not only physical but also psychological impacts. Children are the group most vulnerable to post-disaster stress and trauma. The main challenges addressed by this program are:
  • Children often lose their sense of security and experience anxiety, which disrupts their learning and play.
  • Children’s psychological recovery requires attention that is just as important as meeting their other basic needs.
  • Activities must be child-friendly and allow for freedom of expression without requiring children to recount personal experiences or their experiences during the disaster.
  • Participants range from first to sixth grade, so activities must be tailored to their grade levels, taking into account the hot weather and limited space at the school.

Solution

  • PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Bukit Asam, in collaboration with Filantra, carried out this program on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (8:30–11:45 a.m. WITA) at Ameaba Public Elementary School, Aesesa Subdistrict, Nagekeo Regency. The event began with opening remarks and a welcome address from the principal of Ameaba Public Elementary School, followed by two main activities:
  • Healing Activity: group games and interactive activities in the Recovery Room, which encouraged interaction, camaraderie, and active participation among the children in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
  • Expressive Art through coloring firstand second-grade students used colored pencils to express their creativity and imagination.
  • Expressive Art through “Dream Tree” children in grades 3 through 6 wrote their names, grades, aspirations, and hopes on sticky notes, then attached them to the “Dream Tree” display.
  • At the end of the activity, the children received gifts books, pens, pencils, and balloons as a token of appreciation for their participation.

  • The children participated in group games, coloring activities, and the “Tree of Dreams” activity, where they expressed their aspirations and hopes for the future.
  • Activity supplies were provided, including 35 coloring books, 20 colored pencils/crayons, 35 notebooks, 35 stationery sets, 5 packs of sticky notes, 1 set of children’s emotion flashcards, and 1 set of game materials.
  • Despite the hot weather and limited space, nearly all participants actively engaged in the activities from start to finish.
  • The children were free to create and express themselves without having to recount personal experiences or their experiences during the disaster.
  • School officials and the Nagekeo Social Services Department expressed their appreciation for the support provided to aid in the psychological recovery of the affected children.

Relevance to the SDGs
