Greening Rorotan Together with PT Nusantara Regas and Filantra Through a Sustainable Waste Management Movement

Partner : PT Nusantara Regas
Industry : Oil and Gas
Objective : The Compost Bin Assistance Program for Strengthening Waste Sorting in Rorotan Village, North Jakarta aims to support stronger community-based waste management through the provision of compost bins. In addition, the program encourages waste sorting practices to create a more organized and effective waste management system, increase public awareness regarding cleanliness and environmental care, and support efforts to reduce organic waste through compost utilization. This activity also reflects the collaboration and social commitment between PT Nusantara Regas, Filantra, and the people of Rorotan Village in supporting environmental initiatives that benefit the community.

Challenges :
In the implementation of the Waste Sorting Strengthening Program in Rorotan Village, several challenges were encountered in supporting more optimal waste management efforts, including:

  • Low levels of waste sorting at the source, resulting in mixed waste entering processing facilities
  • Household organic waste has not been utilized optimally and still largely ends up in final disposal sites
  • Increasing household waste volume in urban areas, especially in Jakarta, contributing to waste accumulation
  • Potential environmental pollution caused by suboptimal organic waste management
  • The optimization of RDF Plant Rorotan operations still faces challenges because the quality of incoming waste does not fully meet processing requirements

Solutions :
In the implementation of this program, compost bin assistance was provided as an effort to support more effective and sustainable organic waste management within the community. Through this initiative, the community is expected to better understand the importance of waste sorting from the source and independently manage organic waste so it can generate greater value and benefits. The solutions implemented through this activity include:

  • Providing compost bins to support independent organic waste management
  • Strengthening household waste sorting habits from the source
  • Increasing public awareness regarding the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability
  • Utilizing organic waste into valuable products such as compost fertilizer
  • Supporting the creation of a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment

Program Impact :
The implementation of this program is expected to create positive impacts for both the community and the surrounding environment through improved independent organic waste management capacity. Besides helping reduce waste accumulation, the program also encourages stronger environmental awareness and more optimal utilization of organic waste. The impacts generated include:

  • Increased public understanding regarding the importance of sorting and managing organic waste
  • Reduced volume of organic waste disposed of in final disposal sites
  • Creation of a cleaner and healthier environment
  • Communities gaining supporting facilities for managing household waste independently
  • Processed organic waste can be reused as compost fertilizer
  • Growth of environmental awareness and community participation in maintaining cleanliness within the area

SDGs Relevance :

  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
The Compost Bin Assistance Program for Waste Sorting in Rorotan Village, North Jakarta supports the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment through strengthening community-based waste management. The provision of compost bins helps communities reduce organic waste from the source, increase environmental awareness, and encourage more effective waste management systems at the community level.
  • SDG 13 – Climate Action
This program also supports climate action efforts through reducing organic waste volume that may contribute to greenhouse gas emissions if not managed properly. Through organic waste processing using compost bins, communities are encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly behavior and strengthen participation in preserving environmental sustainability.

Manage Waste, Build a More Sustainable Environment

Good waste management begins with simple actions within the surrounding environment. Through the Compost Bin Assistance Program in Rorotan Village, communities are encouraged to become more aware of sorting and independently processing organic waste to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

This program proves that collaboration and environmental awareness can create positive impacts for the community. Together with Filantra, let us continue delivering empowerment and environmental programs that provide meaningful benefits and create sustainable change for the future.
