Empowerment of MSMEs Processing Marine and Fisheries Products in Collaboration in Papua Maluku

Purpose: To maximize the utilization of marine and fisheries resources by producing various processed products. To enhance the community’s skills in producing diverse processed products from marine and fisheries resources. Additionally, this effort aims to increase community income through the sales of these processed products. Thus, the potential of marine resources can be optimized not only for resource sustainability but also as a driver of local economic welfare.
Challenges:
- Some sea transportation is still done using non-motorized boats (PTM)
- Majority of the population as fishermen rely on unstable catch results
- Processing catch into derivative products such as smoked fish requires adequate skills and facilities
- The growth of the marine product processing business in Papua Maluku is still slow
Solutions:
To address these challenges, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Subholding Commercial & Trading Regional Papua Maluku together with FILANTRA implements the Marine and Fisheries Product Processing Business Program from December 2024 to May 2025, which includes:
- Socialization and Program Assistance
This program is a collaboration between PT Pertamina Patra Niaga and the Ayundi Business Group. PT Pertamina Patra Niaga will mentor the Ayundi Group to develop marine and fisheries product processing businesses, aiming to improve community welfare in Papua and Maluku regions. - Gradual Production Capital Assistance
Providing phased production capital assistance to beneficiary groups to support the production process such as making smoked fish, fish dish (juadah ikan), and fish meatballs. - Packaging and Marketing Development
Developing attractive and marketable product packaging and facilitating marketing through participation in MSME expos or exhibitions. - Technical Production Training
Conducting training on making fish sauce and fish meatballs for fishermen or processing groups to improve product quality and meet standards. - Food Safety Certification Assistance
Assisting group management in obtaining food safety and quality assurance certification to build consumer trust and product standards.
Impact:
- Increased Income for Ayundi Business Group: In April 2025, income increased by 48.41%. This successfully reversed the fluctuating results experienced from January to March 2025.
- New Business Opening: Through the mentoring received, group members acquired knowledge and confidence to open a new business in fish meatballs.
- Product Marketing: With support such as meatball carts, they can directly market their products as ready-to-eat food.
- Daily Income: The fish meatball business shows positive results, selling an average of 20 to 30 portions each night.
