Objective :
The Electrifying Marine Program aims to improve the productivity and livelihoods of fishermen by introducing electric-powered boats as a more efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fishing vessels. The program helps reduce operational costs, supports the transition to clean energy in the fisheries sector, enhances community understanding of electric energy utilization, and promotes a more modern and sustainable fishing ecosystem in Pananjung Village, Pangandaran Regency.
Challenges :
Fishing communities in Pananjung Village continue to face several challenges that affect their productivity and long-term sustainability, including:
- High operational costs due to dependence on fossil fuel.
- Limited adoption of environmentally friendly technologies in fishing activities.
- Low energy efficiency of conventional fishing boats.
- The need to strengthen fishermen’s capacity to operate electric-powered vessels and related technologies.
- Unpredictable weather conditions and seasonal fish availability that affect catch volumes and fishermen’s income.
- The need for supporting infrastructure to ensure the sustainable implementation of clean energy technologies in the fisheries sector.
Solution :
As part of its commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition, PT PLN (Persero) Pusharlis implemented the Electrifying Marine Program through several key initiatives:
- Converting conventional fuel-powered fishing boats into electric-powered boats.
- Providing supporting equipment, including BLDC electric motors, batteries, chargers, wiring harnesses, controllers, cold storage facilities, electrical capacity upgrades, and boat branding.
- Installing cold storage facilities to maintain the quality and freshness of fishermen’s catch.
- Organizing awareness and educational sessions on electric boats, Green Energy, and Electrical Lifestyle.
- Conducting pilot testing and technical improvements to ensure the electric boats meet operational requirements.
- Strengthening collaboration among PT PLN (Persero) Pusharlis, local government, fishermen groups, and other stakeholders to develop a sustainable clean-energy-based fisheries ecosystem.

Impact :
The Electrifying Marine Program has generated meaningful benefits for both the fishing community and the coastal environment, including:
- Thirteen fishermen in Pananjung Village directly benefited from the program.
- Two electric-powered fishing boats and supporting infrastructure were provided, improving operational efficiency for local fishermen.
- The availability of cold storage facilities has helped maintain the quality of fish catches while creating new economic opportunities through cold storage and ice supply services.
- Educational and outreach activities have improved fishermen’s understanding of electric boat technology and clean energy.
- The adoption of electric-powered boats has begun to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, contributing to lower operating costs and reduced carbon emissions.
- Strong collaboration among the company, local government, fishing communities, and other stakeholders has supported the transformation toward a more sustainable and resilient fisheries sector.

Through the Electrifying Marine Program, PT PLN (Persero) Electricity Maintenance Center (Pusharlis), in collaboration with Filantra, has introduced practical solutions by electrifying fishing boats, providing supporting infrastructure, and strengthening the capacity of local fishing communities. Beyond improving operational efficiency and fishermen’s livelihoods, the program represents a tangible step toward accelerating the clean energy transition while preserving Indonesia’s coastal and marine ecosystems for future generations.
