Objective :
The Tree Planting Program aims to support ecosystem restoration in the strategic Ciwidara Asri spring area, Pangalengan Village, Bandung Regency. Through the planting of 1,105 Mahogany and Tabebuya tree seedlings, the program seeks to strengthen the area’s water catchment function, reduce the risk of ecological disasters, safeguard the availability of clean water, and raise community awareness of environmental conservation as part of climate change mitigation efforts.
Challenges :
The environmental conditions in the Pangalengan area continue to face several challenges that require sustained conservation efforts, including:
- Declining land cover quality, which has reduced the effectiveness of the area’s water catchment function.
- Increasing risks of ecological disasters, such as landslides and droughts, resulting from environmental degradation.
- The growing impacts of climate change on the balance of the mountain ecosystem.
- Decreasing spring water discharge, which threatens the long-term availability of clean water for surrounding communities.
- The need to rehabilitate degraded land through reforestation efforts involving multiple stakeholders.
- The importance of strengthening public awareness and participation in long-term environmental conservation.
Solution :
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, PT PLN (Persero) Pusharlis implemented the Tree Planting Program through the following initiatives:
- Planting 1,105 Mahogany and Tabebuya tree seedlings in the strategic Ciwidara Asri spring area.
- Providing supporting resources for the planting activities, including tree seedlings, organic fertilizer, and field equipment for volunteers.
- Engaging approximately 100 environmental volunteers and various stakeholders in the tree planting activities.
- Carrying out phased planting to optimize land rehabilitation efforts.
- Conducting post-planting monitoring and maintenance to ensure a high survival rate of the planted trees.
- Strengthening collaboration among PT PLN (Persero) Pusharlis, the Tapak Tiara Community, local government, and the surrounding community to preserve the sustainability of the water catchment area.
