Objective: The objective of this activity is to improve the quality of education in Indonesia by providing more decent learning facilities, specifically by revitalizing school libraries into child-friendly, comfortable, and functional spaces. Furthermore, this activity aims to support a more holistic learning process and encourage reading interest and literacy activities among students through a more engaging environment, while simultaneously strengthening the collaboration between the private sector and social institutions in supporting sustainable educational development.
Challenges:
Starting from these conditions, there are several challenges faced in the effort to improve literacy through school library revitalization, including:
- Limited library facilities that are inadequate in terms of infrastructure, equipment, and the comfort of the reading room
- Limited and insufficiently varied book collections that have not yet met the needs and reading interests of students
- Low interest and culture of reading among students
- Suboptimal utilization of the library as an active and inspirational learning space
- Lack of a supportive environment to create a pleasant reading experience for students
Solutions:
As an effort to address the challenges in literacy improvement and the limitations of library facilities, this program presents several solutions, including:
- Revitalizing the library room through renovation to make it more decent, comfortable, and child-friendly
- Providing supporting infrastructure and facilities such as bookshelves, cupboards, reading tables, and carpets to enhance learning comfort
- Adding collections of reading books to support students’ literacy needs
- Strengthening the library’s function as an active learning space through interactive activities such as storytelling and Q&A sessions
- Creating a pleasant learning atmosphere through a series of activities that directly involve students
Program Impact:
The implementation of this program provides a positive impact on the school environment, including:
- Increased comfort and decency of library facilities as a student learning space
- Increased student access to more diverse reading materials
- Increased student interest in reading through a more attractive library environment

Amid efforts to improve the quality of education, the existence of school libraries is often not utilized optimally. In fact, this space holds a vital role in shaping reading habits and supporting the student learning process. Through the School Library Revitalization Program at SDN Karet Tengsin 21 Pagi, Central Jakarta, the library is reintroduced as a more child-friendly, comfortable, and functional space. This is achieved not only through room renovation but also through the provision of reading books and other supporting facilities, so that the library can become a more vibrant and enjoyable place for students to learn.
The collaboration between PT Hitachi Channel Solutions Indonesia and Filantra is a concrete manifestation of contribution toward supporting higher-quality education. Through this program, it is hoped that students will have better access to literacy facilities and that a stronger interest in reading will grow from an early age.
