Partner : PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk
Industry : Banking Services
Objective : The implementation of the 2025 Sumatra Disaster Response Assistance Program (Phase II) is to assist communities affected by flood disasters in the regions of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh through the provision of logistical aid and emergency necessities. This program aims to support the fulfillment of the basic needs of disaster victims, as well as to assist the post-disaster management process so that affected communities can navigate the emergency period better. Furthermore, this activity is carried out as a form of concern and collaboration between PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk and Filantra in responding to disasters quickly and accurately.
Challenges :
The implementation of the Disaster Response Assistance Program in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh faced a number of challenges on the ground. High rainfall and geographical conditions prone to flooding and landslides caused damage to transportation access, so the distribution of logistical aid to several affected areas could not be carried out optimally and required adjustments to distribution routes. In addition, the vastness of the affected areas and the high number of displaced persons increased the need for basic food supplies, clean water, and emergency equipment, while the availability and mobilization of logistics had to be carried out quickly and accurately. Limited access to public facilities and basic infrastructure in several locations also became a challenge in ensuring that aid could reach all affected communities evenly during the emergency response period.
Solutions :
In response to the urgent needs of communities affected by hydrometeorological disasters in the Sumatra region, this program was designed with a coordinated and targeted aid distribution approach, realized through the following steps:
- The distribution of food logistics aid was carried out directly to disaster posts in the three affected provinces, namely Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, so that aid could be received quickly by the communities in need.
- Coordination with village officials and local post managers was conducted to ensure the aid handover process ran in an orderly manner and in accordance with the conditions and needs on the ground.
- The types of aid distributed were adjusted to the basic needs of the community during the emergency response period, including staple food items, drinking water, ready-to-consume food, and infant necessities.
- Aid distribution was carried out in stages and scheduled in early January 2026 to support the sustainability of fulfilling basic community needs during the disaster emergency period.
Activity Impact:
Through the implementation of this Disaster Response Assistance program, the distribution of aid provided tangible benefits for affected communities while supporting disaster management efforts in the target areas, with the following impacts:
- Fulfillment of partial basic needs for food and drinking water for disaster-affected communities in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra during the emergency response period.
- Reduction of the burden on displaced communities through the availability of logistical aid distributed directly to disaster posts.
- Support for the disaster emergency response management process carried out by the government and local stakeholders through collaborative aid distribution.
- Realization of PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk’s commitment to implementing corporate social responsibility through a rapid response to humanitarian emergency conditions.
SDGs Relevance :
SDG Goal 2: Zero Hunger, through the provision of food assistance such as rice, sardines, eggs, cooking oil, biscuits, and other supporting foods to ensure nutritional intake for disaster-affected communities and prevent food insecurity and the risk of malnutrition in evacuation sites.
