Indosat SIGAP Action with Filantra in Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan
Partner: Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison
Industry: Telecommunications
Objective: The INDOSAT SIGAP (Emergency Response Ready) Program for South Kalimantan Flood Disaster Relief was carried out to assist communities affected by floods by providing logistics such as ready-to-eat meals, sleeping equipment, hygiene kits, and communication support. This program aims to lighten the community’s burden in meeting basic needs during the emergency response period while supporting the health, cleanliness, and comfort of affected residents. Additionally, this activity serves as a manifestation of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison’s concern and active role alongside Filantra in supporting disaster management and early recovery for communities in affected areas.
Challenges:
- The implementation of humanitarian aid activities in Balangan Regency faced several challenges influenced by rapid and widespread flash flood conditions.
- High water levels overflowing into residential areas submerged thousands of houses, paralyzing community activities and limiting access to affected regions.
- The distribution of affected locations across eight villages in Tebing Tinggi District required data collection and aid distribution to be carried out in stages and coordinated with various parties.
- Ongoing emergency conditions, even as water began to recede in some spots, meant that communities continued to face limited access to basic needs.
- The threat of house damage and potential post-flood diseases were also challenges to be anticipated in the management and early recovery process for affected residents, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and women.
Solutions: To address the emergency conditions still faced by the people of Sungsum Village post-flood, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison through the INDOSAT SIGAP program presented several solutions focused on basic needs and early recovery support:
- Distributing ready-to-eat meals to affected communities to help meet daily consumption needs amidst social and economic activities that have not yet recovered.
- Distributing non-food logistics such as sleeping mats and blankets to support community comfort during the post-disaster period.
- Providing hygiene kits to help the community maintain cleanliness and health in environments still affected by post-flood mud.
- Delivering aid directly through the Sungsum Village Distribution Post involving village officials and local volunteers to ensure orderly and targeted distribution.
- Providing Indosat and Three starter packs (SIM cards) as communication support so that the community remains connected with family and their surroundings during the recovery period.
Impact of Activities: Through the implementation of these solutions, the INDOSAT SIGAP South Kalimantan Flood Disaster Relief Program provided real impacts for the affected community in Sungsum Village, as reflected in the following achievements:
- Helped lighten the burden of affected communities in meeting food needs during the post-disaster period.
- Increased community comfort through the availability of sleeping mats and blankets amidst environmental conditions that have not fully recovered.
- Supported efforts to maintain community cleanliness and health with the availability of hygiene kits in flood-affected areas.
- Provided a sense of security and psychosocial support through maintained communication access thanks to the provision of Indosat and Three starter packs.
- Strengthened the early recovery process of the community with the presence of coordinated and targeted aid.
SDGs Relevance:
- SDGs Goal 2: Zero Hunger
The INDOSAT SIGAP program contributes to the fulfillment of basic food needs for disaster-affected communities through the distribution of ready-to-eat meals and mineral water, helping to maintain food availability and prevent food insecurity during the emergency response period.
- SDGs Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
The provision of sleeping equipment and hygiene kit packages supports efforts to maintain the cleanliness, health, and well-being of affected communities, particularly in post-flood evacuation environments.
- SDGs Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
The distribution of Indosat and Three starter packs supports access to telecommunication services and information connectivity for affected communities, which plays a vital role in emergency situations and the post-disaster recovery process.
