A Calm Step in Critical Times, Collaboration of PT Tuban PetroChemical Industries and Filantra in the 2025 Sumatra Flood Emergency Response
Partner : PT Tuban PetroChemical Industries
Industry : Petrochemical
Objective : The 2025 Sumatra Flood Disaster Response Assistance Program aims to provide humanitarian support to communities affected by flood disasters through the distribution of logistics and emergency needs. This activity is implemented to help fulfill the basic needs of affected communities during the emergency response period, while supporting the handling and recovery process in flood-affected areas. Through this program, it is expected that the urgent needs of the community can be met accurately and help alleviate the burden on those affected.
Challenges : The implementation of the Flood Disaster Response Assistance in Sumatra faced a number of challenges influenced by the vast scale and impact of the disaster. Massive flooding that hit 52 regencies/cities in three provinces caused hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate and prevented them from returning to their homes, significantly increasing the need for logistical aid and basic supplies.
The high death toll and the fact that victims are still reported missing indicate that post-disaster conditions remain dynamic and require sustained handling. Additionally, physical damage to hundreds of thousands of houses with varying levels of severity further extends the recovery period for the affected communities.
Another challenge is ensuring the availability and distribution of logistical aid including ready-to-eat food, clean water, hygiene kits, infant and toddler needs, medicines, and evacuation equipment to reach the affected communities in a timely manner. In emergency conditions with wide-ranging affected areas, the coordination of aid distribution becomes a vital factor so that assistance is received equitably and in accordance with field needs.
Solution :
- PT Tuban PetroChemical Industries provided and distributed basic logistical aid as a response to the emergency conditions caused by the floods hitting the West Sumatra region.
- Aid was distributed directly to the flood-affected areas, specifically Solok Regency and Padang City, to assist affected communities located in evacuation centers.
- The distribution of aid was carried out through local evacuation posts so that the delivery could be received and managed in a coordinated manner by the post authorities.
- The distribution of aid was implemented in stages on December 12 and 19, 2025, to reach more than one affected location according to the conditions in the field.
- The aid handover process involved field teams representing PT Tuban PetroChemical Industries and was received directly by the evacuation post managers at each location.
Program Impact :
- The provision of staple food items and ready-to-eat food such as rice, instant noodles, sardines, biscuits, and supplementary food was used to fulfill the daily dietary needs of flood-affected communities during the emergency response period.
- The distribution of bottled drinking water was used to meet the clean water consumption needs of affected residents while at evacuation locations.
- The provision of infant formula and nutritional support food was used to help meet the nutritional needs of children and toddlers as a vulnerable group during the disaster emergency.
- The distribution of additional consumption items, such as energy drinks, was used to help maintain the energy intake of affected residents, particularly for families directly impacted by the flood.
- The availability of such basic logistical aid helped alleviate the burden on flood-affected communities who had to leave their homes and rely on assistance during the emergency response period.
- The distribution of aid through evacuation posts ensured that all types of assistance, including food supplies, drinking water, and toddler needs, could be received and utilized by the affected communities in a coordinated manner.
SDGs Relevance : SDGs Goal 2: Zero Hunger
This program contributes to supporting the fulfillment of food and nutritional needs for flood-affected communities through the distribution of aid in the form of rice, instant noodles, mineral water, cooking oil, sardines, infant formula, supplementary drinks, and biscuits. This assistance helps maintain the availability of food intake for affected residents in evacuation locations, while preventing food insecurity and the risk of malnutrition during the emergency response period.
Through the rapid and targeted provision of food aid and basic needs, this program also supports the survival of disaster survivors and helps ensure that vulnerable groups, including children and toddlers, continue to obtain the necessary intake. Thus, this activity is part of the company’s efforts to support the achievement of the SDGs through concrete action in the field of humanity and disaster management.
Moving Together in Post-Disaster Recovery

When floods leave a trail of loss, hope can still grow through care and togetherness. Post-disaster recovery is not just about the aid distributed, but about ensuring every family can step forward again with greater safety and dignity.
Filantra invites partners and concerned parties to join hands in supporting the recovery of disaster-affected communities in Sumatra. Together, we can provide the right, sustainable, and meaningful support to strengthen community resilience today, while preparing for a better future.
