PT Hindoli Cargill and Filantra Empower Independent Livestock MSMEs through the Ternakpreneur Program

PARTNER: PT Hindoli Cargill

INDUSTRY: Oil Palm Plantation

OBJECTIVE:

The Ternakpreneur Program for MSMEs developed by PT Hindoli Cargill aims to empower the local economy by promoting sustainable free-range chicken farming (KUB chicken). The initiative combines training, infrastructure support, and intensive mentorship to build community-based agribusiness capacity.

CHALLENGES:

  • Limited access to local feed raw materials
  • Poor road infrastructure to reach farming sites
  • Fluctuating chicken market prices and limited access to broader markets
  • Low initial community capacity in managing modern poultry farming

SOLUTIONS:

1. Site Survey and Infrastructure Preparation
Location surveys were conducted to identify suitable land, followed by the construction of elevated, flood-resistant poultry houses.

2. Poultry and Feed Production Training
Community members and pesantren students received intensive training on:

  • KUB chicken farming (Balitbangtan Superior Village Chicken)
  • Fermented feed production techniques

3. Livestock and Equipment Support
Over 1,500 KUB day-old chicks (DOC), along with feed, vitamins, and vaccines, were distributed in four phases.

4. Intensive Mentorship by Filantra and Hindoli Teams
Continuous assistance was provided throughout brooding, maintenance, sanitation, livestock sales, and transparent profit-sharing.

5. Financial Analysis and Transparent Profit Sharing
The program generated over IDR 58 million in revenue and a group savings of more than IDR 10 million within a year.

IMPACT:

  • Increased Independence of Community-Based Poultry MSMEs
Local farmers now possess stronger technical and business capabilities, as well as improved access to markets.
  • Additional Income for Rural Families
The program significantly boosts household income, especially for women in the community.
  • New Skills and Insights
Participants gained hands-on knowledge from national livestock experts, enhancing their competence in agribusiness.

This initiative directly contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 1: No Poverty
  • SDG 5: Gender Equality (women’s involvement in the economy)
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
