Partner: PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (SOR 1)
Industry: Energy
Objective: The Humanitarian Aid Program of the PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (SOR 1) Labor Union for Flood and Landslide Disasters in North Sumatra aims to assist affected communities through the provision of post-disaster basic needs. This activity is focused on easing the burden of communities affected by floods and landslides as well as supporting the fulfillment of residents’ basic needs in emergency conditions. Furthermore, this program aims to strengthen the concern and active role of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (SOR 1) together with Filantra in supporting disaster management efforts and early recovery of affected communities in the North Sumatra region.
Challenges: In the implementation of humanitarian aid activities for communities affected by flash floods and landslides in the regions of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, several challenges were faced in the field, including:
- The vastness of the disaster-affected area covering several provinces with varying levels of damage and needs, thus requiring precise coordination and planning for aid distribution.
- Severed road access, bridges, and vital infrastructure due to floods and landslides which hindered logistics delivery and mobilization of aid to affected locations.
- The high number of casualties and displaced persons reaching hundreds of thousands of people, causing the need for basic aid to increase significantly in a short period.
- Heavy damage to public facilities such as residential houses, health facilities, education, and places of worship which slowed down the early recovery process of the community.
- Extreme weather conditions that still potentially occur during the emergency response period, increasing safety risks for teams in the field and the affected communities.
- Limited access to electricity, clean water, and communication networks in several areas, making the process of data collection, coordination, and optimal aid distribution difficult.
Solutions: As a response to the emergency conditions faced by communities affected by floods and landslides, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (SOR 1), through the Labor Union Humanitarian Aid Program, deployed several concrete solutions, including:
- Distributing food logistics aid such as instant noodles, rice, mineral water, biscuits, sardines, sugar, ready-to-eat dry food, tea bags, vitamin supplements, and cooking oil to help meet the community’s food needs during the emergency period.
- Providing non-food logistics aid such as sanitary napkins, baby diapers, and clothing to support the fulfillment of basic needs for vulnerable groups, particularly women and children in evacuation sites.
- Conducting direct aid distribution through affected posts so that aid can be received in an orderly manner, on target, and according to community needs.
- Coordinating with local post representatives to ensure the smoothness of the aid distribution process and to adjust to the conditions and needs in the field.
Impact of Activities: Through the implementation of these solutions, this activity provided positive impacts felt directly by the affected communities, including:
- Helping to ease the burden of disaster-affected communities in meeting basic food and non-food needs during the emergency response period.
- Providing real support for displaced persons in the North Sibolga area, specifically in maintaining the availability of food and daily needs amidst limited access.
- Increasing the sense of security and social concern in the community through the presence of rapid, coordinated, and targeted aid.
- Supporting the early recovery process of the community post-disaster by ensuring basic needs remain fulfilled in times of emergency.
SDGs Relevance:
SDGs Goal 2: Zero Hunger
The distribution of Humanitarian Aid from the PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk Labor Union to communities affected by natural disasters and landslides in North Sumatra by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (SOR 1) is in line with SDGs Goal 2 which focuses on the fulfillment of basic food needs and the prevention of hunger. Logistics aid in the form of instant noodles, rice, biscuits, sardines, sugar, ready-to-eat dry food, tea bags, cooking oil, and mineral water helps ensure food availability for affected communities during the emergency response period. This support plays a role in maintaining temporary food security and helping the community meet daily consumption needs amidst limited post-disaster access.
SDGs Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
This activity is also in line with SDGs Goal 3 which focuses on improving the health and well-being of the community. Aid in the form of Enervon C vitamin supplements supports the immune system of affected people, while the distribution of sanitary napkins, baby diapers, and clothing helps maintain cleanliness, health, and comfort for vulnerable groups, specifically infants and women. Thus, this program contributes to maintaining the physical health and well-being of the community during the post-disaster emergency period.
Strengthening Collaboration for Sustainable Humanitarian Action

Filantra continues to open space for collaboration for companies, labor unions, and stakeholders to play an active role in humanitarian action and disaster management across various regions in Indonesia. Through the synergy built with PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (SOR 1), this program serves as a real example of how coordinated collaboration can deliver targeted aid with a direct impact on affected communities. Looking ahead, Filantra invites more parties to together strengthen disaster response, accelerate early recovery, and build community resilience in facing disaster risks in the future.
