PARTNERS : ACC Syariah
INDUSTRY : Sharia Automotive Financing
PURPOSE : Improving the quality of health and access to free basic health services for underprivileged communities in the ring 1 area of ACC Syariah Banda Aceh Branch Office, especially in Batoh Village.
CHALLENGES :
Limited access to basic and metabolic health services among low-income communities, especially toddlers and the elderly, as well as low understanding of medical emergency treatment at home.
SOLUTION:
In facing the challenges of accessing health services that are still an obstacle for underprivileged communities in the ring 1 area of the ACC Syariah Banda Aceh Branch Office, especially in Batoh Village, ACC Syariah together with Filantra initiated the Curative Health Services Program.
In running the Curative Health Services Program, the first step taken was the Counseling on Handling Medical Emergencies at Home. In this program, there was counseling delivered by a medical professional, Dr. Soraya, with the theme “Handling Medical Emergencies at Home”. The material covered how to handle emergency conditions such as open wounds, fainting, high fever, or falling blood pressure that often occur before professional medical assistance arrives. Increasing the knowledge capacity of the community is very important to strengthen the family’s resilience to emergency situations.
The next program is health services (curative) to 103 beneficiaries. Services are carried out thoroughly, including the initial examination stage such as blood pressure measurement, medical consultation by a general practitioner, to the provision of free medicine according to the results of the diagnosis. This is a concrete step in overcoming financial constraints that often make people reluctant or delay seeing a doctor even though they are sick.
From the diagnosis data, there were 21 people with joint inflammation, 21 people with fever, 20 people with ulcers (stomach pain), 11 people with laryngitis, 10 people with high blood pressure, 6 people with skin diseases, 4 people with skin irritation, 4 people with fever, 3 people with diabetes mellitus, 2 people with acute respiratory infections, 1 person with dizziness, and 1 person with stomach acid.
The third program was a metabolic examination for 42 beneficiaries. This examination service includes blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol levels. This service is important to detect early symptoms of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and heart problems. From the data on the results of the examinations that have been carried out, there are 56 metabolic examination services that have been carried out with the most popular service being blood sugar checks, namely 27 people. While the least interested is cholesterol check as many as 14 people. With this metabolic examination, people can get early information about the condition of their bodies and do the necessary follow-up, so as to avoid more serious disease complications.
After these three programs, the next activity is that this program also pays attention to the most vulnerable groups such as toddlers and the elderly. A total of 103 PMT (Supplementary Feeding) packages were distributed, by Mr. Dova Kanik Lazaro and Mr. Andi Kalaya to representatives of the Gampong Batoh Village community. This PMT serves as a rapid intervention to support the nutritional status of priority groups, as well as educate the community about the importance of fulfilling balanced nutrition in everyday life.
The Curative Health Services Program implemented by ACC Syariah is in line with the 3rd Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), Good Health and Well Being. The linkage of the Curative Health Services Program with the 8th Good Health and Well Being (SDGs) is very relevant to the goals of the SDGs, especially in improving the health and welfare of the community. By providing better access to health services, conducting counseling, and empowering communities, the program contributes to the achievement of global goals for better health and well-being for all. Through these efforts, it is hoped that people’s quality of life can improve, and Indonesia can move closer towards achieving the 2030 SDGs.
As such, the Program is a way of how local initiatives can have a significant impact in a global context, and serve as an inspiration for other health programs across Indonesia. With a strong commitment from all parties involved, it is hoped that this program can continue and grow, providing greater benefits to the community and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals in Indonesia.
IMPACT:
The Curative Health Services Program has shown a positive impact on increasing community access by not only providing free medical services, but also creating various positive impacts, both in terms of health, social, and sustainable development. One of the most tangible impacts of this program is the increased access to health services for the underprivileged. By reaching 103 beneficiaries, consisting of toddlers, children, adults, and the elderly, this program has succeeded in overcoming the cost barriers and limited health facilities that have limited the community in getting treatment. People who were previously reluctant to seek medical treatment due to economic constraints can now consult directly with a doctor, have their blood pressure checked, get a diagnosis, and receive the necessary medication free of charge.
More than just treatment, the program also brought about a change in the health awareness of the community. This was realized through an education program titled “Handling Medical Emergencies at Home” delivered by medical professionals. This education provides basic yet essential knowledge on how to deal with health emergencies before professional help arrives. It improved the health literacy of the community and strengthened their preparedness to deal with emergencies in the home environment.
An equally important impact came from the metabolic screening service. A total of 42 residents underwent blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid checks. The screening revealed that most of the participants had high uric acid and cholesterol levels, indicating potential health risks that need to be addressed. These findings provide an opportunity for the community to intervene early, change lifestyles, and prevent further disease complications.
The program also reached vulnerable groups such as toddlers and the elderly through the distribution of 103 Supplementary Feeding Packages (PMT). The packages contained nutritious food such as mung bean juice and boiled eggs as a quick intervention to support their nutritional intake and immunity. For many families, this assistance is very meaningful as it supports recovery from illness while educating about the importance of balanced nutrition.
On the other hand, the social impact of the program is also strong. The program involves local volunteers, village officials and community leaders, fostering a sense of ownership and active participation from the community. This collaboration between parties not only facilitates program implementation, but also strengthens social networks and the spirit of gotong royong in the community. Beneficiaries also feel more valued and cared for, as reflected in a number of testimonials from residents who expressed gratitude for the services they received.
Overall, the Program not only heals, but also encourages behavior change, strengthens community resilience, and provides new hope for a healthier life. The impact is not only measured in numbers, but also in people’s sense of security, confidence, and optimism for a better future.
