Humanitarian Action for Flood and Landslide Survivors in Sumatra

Partner: PT Tuban Petrochemical Industries (TPI)

Industry: Petrochemical Industry

Objective: The 2025 Sumatra Region Flood and Landslide Disaster Response Assistance activity was carried out as an effort by PT Tuban Petrochemical Industries, together with TubanPetro Group and Filantra, to help communities affected by flood and landslide disasters through the provision of logistical aid and emergency needs. This program aims to support the fulfillment of basic needs for affected communities, lighten the burden caused by disaster impacts, and support the post-disaster management and recovery process so that the community can survive and gradually return to their daily activities.

Challenges:

  • The major flood disaster that hit the Sumatra region in late November 2025 occurred extensively and impacted dozens of regencies and cities across several provinces, resulting in a very large coverage area.
  • Continuous high rainfall caused damage to settlements, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate and hindering the community’s ability to meet basic needs independently.
  • BNPB data recording hundreds of fatalities, hundreds of thousands of residents unable to return home, and hundreds of thousands of damaged houses indicate that the need for assistance is urgent and long-term.
  • This condition poses challenges in providing logistics in large quantities while ensuring that aid distribution is coordinated, timely, and reaches all affected areas evenly.

Solutions: To respond to the urgent needs of people affected by floods and landslides in West Sumatra, TubanPetro Group implemented the following solutions:

  • Distributing logistical aid in the form of food supplies and basic needs such as instant noodles, rice, mineral water, cooking oil, sardines, infant formula, Energen, and biscuits to support the fulfillment of food needs for affected communities.
  • Implementing aid distribution in stages at two evacuation post points, namely the Nagari Tanjung Sani Post in Solok Regency and the Tabiang Banda Gadang Post in Padang City, to ensure aid reaches more than one affected area.
  • Handing over aid directly to local post managers through coordination with the post leader to ensure aid is received and managed in an orderly and targeted manner.
  • Arranging the aid distribution schedule on different dates to adapt to field conditions and ensure smooth distribution at each location.

Impact of Activities: Through the implementation of the 2025 Sumatra Region Flood and Landslide Disaster Response Assistance Program, this activity provided the following impacts:

  • Helped fulfill the basic food needs of communities affected by floods and landslides during the emergency period in the Solok Regency and Padang City areas.
  • Lightened the burden on evacuees, especially families and toddlers, through the provision of food aid and infant formula needed at evacuation posts.
  • Supported the smooth management of logistics at evacuation posts through aid distribution coordinated with local post managers.
  • Strengthened the role of TubanPetro Group in implementing corporate social responsibility through direct involvement in disaster management efforts.
  • Provided tangible support for affected communities to survive and gradually undergo the post-disaster recovery process.

SDGs Relevance:

  • SDGs 2: Zero Hunger The 2025 Sumatra Region Flood and Landslide Disaster Response Assistance Program by TubanPetro Group supports SDGs 2 through the distribution of food aid for disaster-affected communities.
  • Aid in the form of rice, instant noodles, mineral water, cooking oil, sardines, infant formula, Energen, and biscuits helps meet the daily consumption needs of residents at evacuation sites.
  • This effort plays a role in maintaining food availability, preventing food insecurity, and reducing the risk of malnutrition during the emergency response period.

Real Concern for Sumatra Disaster Survivors

The 2025 Sumatra Region Flood and Landslide Disaster Response Assistance Program is a form of TubanPetro Group’s concern in helping affected communities through the distribution of food aid and basic needs. This assistance is aimed at supporting the fulfillment of community needs at evacuation sites during the emergency response period.

Through collaboration with Filantra, aid is distributed in a coordinated manner at affected posts to ensure it is targeted and in accordance with field needs. This program reflects a shared commitment to providing humanitarian actions that are responsive and meaningful for the post-disaster recovery process.
