PURPOSE : Overcoming the
forest and land fires (karhutla) disaster that occurred in South Sumatra (South Sumatra) by rolling out the Karhutla Assistance Program
Palembang South Sumatra. This activity is a concrete manifestation of supporting the creation of cities and settlements
that are inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
CHALLENGE: Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), indications of the extent of forest and land fires (karhutla) in South Sumatra province have reached 4,082.82 hectares (ha). Head of the Sumatra Region Forest and Land Fire Climate Change Control Center (BPPIKHL) Ferdian Krisnanto said that the fires in OKI are a serious concern because in the last month the fire is still difficult to extinguish. In addition, the second most forest and land fires in South Sumatra are in Ogan Ilir district, reaching 511.21 ha. Followed by Banyu district with 439.25 ha. KLHK noted that these land fires occurred in almost all areas of South Sumatra, except in Lake, Empat Lawang, Lahat, Lubuklinggau, Pagar Alam, and Prabumulih districts which are in the safe category.
SOLUTION: The Palembang South Sumatra Karhutla Assistance Program is a program to provide assistance for logistical needs and PPE to support the field operations of the Manggala Agni team in handling forest and land fires (Karhutla) in the South Sumatra region. The handover of the assistance was carried out directly by Mrs. Imelda Fitri as the representative of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk to Mr. Chandra Irfansyah as the Section Head of Region III of the Sumatra Region PPI Center, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the Sumatra Region PPIKHL Center Jalan AMD, Talang Jambe, Sukarami District, Palembang City, South Sumatra. In addition to supporting equipment for field operations, the Manggala Agni team also received logistical assistance
such as sterile milk and vitamin C. This assistance is provided to maintain the body condition of the Manggala Agni team personnel to stay fit and healthy. So that all Manggala Agni team personnel will be maximized and enthusiastic in carrying out their duties.
Impact: The Palembang South Sumatra Karhutla Assistance Program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the 11th SDG goal of Sustainable cities and communities. This program is a logistics and PPE assistance program to support the field operations of the Manggala Agni team in handling forest and land fires (Karhutla) in the South Sumatra region. The assistance provided was in the form of 20 boxes of instant noodles, 20 boxes of bear brand sterile milk, 20 bottles of vitamin C, 20 pcs of 3M respirator masks, 20 pcs of goggles, 20 pcs of krisbow safety booth models, 1 platoon tent package and 5 velbed packages. This assistance is very useful for the Manggala Agni team in supporting their extraordinary performance in extinguishing fires at several points of forest and land fires (karhutla) that often occur. With an unyielding attitude and spirit, they dedicate themselves to helping others by extinguishing fires even though the distance is far and difficult to reach, it does not dampen the enthusiasm of the Manggala Api team to extinguish even if they have to stay overnight in the field. Thus this program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the 11th SDG goal of Sustainable cities and communities.
