Community Health Service Event: Free Health Check-ups and Staple Food Distribution for the Sleman Community

Community Health Service Event: Free Health Check-ups and Staple Food Distribution for the Sleman Community

Partner: Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS)
Industry: Banking

Objectives:
This program aims to alleviate the economic burden on the community through the provision of staple food aid, which indirectly also improves access to health. By fulfilling basic food needs, this program helps maintain nutritional status and body immunity, thereby preventing health problems and creating a healthier, more productive society.

Challenges:

  • Although the number of Community Health Centers (Puskesmas), primary clinics, and main clinics is considerable, their distribution is uneven.
  • The increasing trend in life expectancy and the growing elderly population create additional pressure on the health system. The need for routine and continuous health services (e.g., for degenerative diseases) and preventive services is becoming more urgent.
  • The uneven distribution of medical personnel exacerbates access problems. Areas with limited health facilities are also likely to face shortages of doctors and other health workers.

Solutions:

  • Health Education / Counseling for the Community
The health counseling program aims to increase public awareness about the importance of healthy living habits and disease prevention. Through direct education, participants gain a better understanding of how to manage their health, especially concerning metabolic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol, which are prevalent in the Sleman community.
  • General and Pediatric Health Services for 300 Beneficiaries
Free health services were provided to 300 beneficiaries, including general check-ups, blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol tests, and doctor consultations. This program helps in the early detection of health problems and provides medical treatment and free medication, especially for the elderly, who were the dominant group of beneficiaries.
  • Distribution of 50 Supplementary Feeding Packages for Children and Toddlers
Fifty Supplementary Feeding (PMT) packages were distributed to children and toddlers to support their growth and nutritional status. Containing UHT milk and nutritious biscuits, these packages aim to prevent the risk of malnutrition and are a form of early attention to the health of the younger generation.
  • Distribution of 250 Staple Food Packages to the Community
This program distributed 250 staple food packages containing rice, cooking oil, sugar, tea, eggs, sardines, and tote bags to the community, especially those affected by disasters and vulnerable groups. This aid alleviates economic burdens while supporting household food security in the Kepuharjo area, Sleman.

Impact:

  • The community received curative health services and free metabolic screenings (blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol). 300 people received general and pediatric health services.
  • Alleviated the economic burden on households by fulfilling basic food needs through the distribution of 250 staple food packages for families.
  • The community received general and maternal health counseling, with 100% of attending participants taking part in the education sessions.

SDGs Relevance:

  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger
This program supports the second SDG goal by providing staple food aid to 250 families and Supplementary Feeding (PMT) packages to 50 children and toddlers.
  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
This program is highly relevant due to the implementation of comprehensive free health services, including general health check-ups (blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol) and anthropometric examinations for children and toddlers, accompanied by health counseling, medical consultations, and the provision of free medicine.
